Are You Thinking About Selling Online For Extra Income?

Different ways you can make money online are popping up everywhere on the Internet and television. The current status of our economy is sad and we need to be looking out for ourselves financially. Perhaps a part-time job selling on the Internet is not a bad idea. Government job security is no longer a reality with new technologies being invented every day and budget cuts happening in every company nationwide. No one’s job is considered secure anymore.
If you were going to sell something online I would think it should be something you are passionate about. Not knowing your product makes it hard to be a good salesman. Of course you could spend time researching different products but unless you have the time to do that it could defeat your purpose.
One fun and interesting item to sell online would be books. Most people love to read and will show you shelf after shelf of books they have bought and read. But unless you are a collector of classic books or the do it yourself type of person you probably don’t need to keep all those books forever. Keeping a supply of how-to books like the best gardening book or refinishing your dining room chairs is always beneficial because they never go out of style.
There are numerous online book service websites that will help you sell your books. All they need is the ISBN number to list it on their website. If and when the book sells they let you know. That is not really the way I would want to do business with someone. Some people may enjoy shopping like that but wouldn’t you rather know a little about a person before selling to them?
Create your own website and make it reflective of how you would sell books. You could write short descriptions of the books you have to offer and have a sense of satisfaction knowing you helped a person get what they wanted. There are books that will not require a description because it will be in the title like ‘Best Golf Instruction Book‘. A person shouldn’t have any problem figuring out what that book is going to teach them.
You could personalize your website to make it inviting to come back to. Include an online chat where people could request certain books. Maybe other people in the chat room would know how to get those books so you could all help each other to get the books that people wanted. Because really a business should try to give the people what they want. If you don’t have what they are looking for help them to find it. Customer satisfaction always brings them back.
Obviously this is not advice to get rich quick. But you’ll make new friends and you will be doing the public a service that most businesses have forgotten about. You’ll be having fun and you will be networking which is a great doorway to new opportunities. Another plus of having your own business is that it’s a tax write-off. Any deductions we can find when doing our taxes is going to be a good thing.
